Shadows

I’ve been living in a shadow.

Shadows of things I could be, but are not because I can’t on my own.

I go to sleep in the dark.

Longing for a light I’m too frail to embrace, too blind to chase.

Gradually, all things bearing the least glint elude me.

Even the comfort of partial darkness yells harsh words at me when it casts shadows longer than myself around me.

There’s a darkness in my mind,

It’s beating me down whenever I try to fight.

Nobody said I could mimic greatness without the urge to hide.
