Tribute to a semi-stranger

We take life for granted

Assuming that the people we see for a few weeks

Will always stay with us

We forget how life takes a bend sometimes when we least expect it

We believe in constants-

Leaving the variables of our existence to whomever it may concern

But now we’re beginning to understand-

That things will never stay the same

And people will leave and not always because they chose to,

Sometimes it’s because they’ve been called to

But the memories-

Those memories will stay

Because those are the ones that remind us how beautiful everything once was.

Maybe not every death is a loss

Some open our eyes to life and its fullness

To beauty beyond skin and bones and to places we can’t reach from earth.

And maybe not every loss ought to be looked at as pain

Maybe this loss is their gain

Maybe this loss put them in a better place.

And with all the love that we have

Maybe we should allow ourselves to be happy for them.

For isn’t love hopeful?

Hopeful that someday

You’ll be together again?
